Why should it be so expensive, especially in this time of economic upheaval, to have unique and interesting window treatments without paying a fortune for them? More instructions for frugal window decorating.
Creating the Sides and Top
Bobbie Jean Peachey
Decide how wide your side pieces are to be. Then measure about 1 and 1/2 inches above the top of the window down to about 1 and 1/2 inch below where you want the side pieces to end. Measure across the top of the window and across the top of both of your side pieces. Cut your cardboard or your thin plywood to these measurements. Then cut your point on the ends of your side pieces if you choose to have the side pieces end in a point. Cut your batting and your material about 1 and 1/2 inches longer and wider than your cardboard or plywood pieces. Cut and spread the batting and material over the pieces, smoothing the batting and the material out. Carefully turn the pieces over and bring the edges of the batting and material to the back side and anchor to the cardboard or plywood with duck tape, glue, tacks, or staples.
When you have the two side pieces done, attach them to the side walls with thumbtacks, small screws or small nails about 1 inch above the top of the window.
