The last week in March is National Cleaning Week. It's time to organize your cleaning supplies to enable you to clean the smart way. Knowing what products are needed to clean various rooms, furniture and objects in your home means that you don't waste time getting started or using the wrong cleaning products. A few cleaning tips and the right cleaning products will go a long way in cutting down your cleaning time.

    Cleaning Tips

    1. Clean the room that you hate to clean FIRST, then the rest of the rooms will seem like a breeze to clean.
    2. Clean one room at a time and always start at the top and work down.
    3. Keep bathroom mirrors from fogging up by cleaning them with shaving cream.
    4. Once your oven is squeaky clean, cover the bottom of the oven with aluminum foil to catch any spills and drips.
    5. Have your cleaning supplies in each room where they will be used. If this is not possible, then store all the cleaning supplies in one place so you can grab all of them and take them to the room you are going to clean.

    Cleaning Tools

  • Dust mop for each floor of your home.
  • Mop. One for the Kitchen and one for each bathroom.
  • Vacuum cleaner. One for each floor of your home.
  • Bucket. One for the Kitchen and one for each bathroom.
  • Dust pan and whisk broom. One for each floor of your home.
  • Broom. One for the kitchen or use the vacuum on the kitchen floor.
  • Toilet Brush. One for each bathroom.
  • Old Toothbrushes. One for each bath and one for the kitchen.
  • Small garbage bags. For litter and used paper towels.
  • Cleaning Supplies

  • All Purpose Spray Cleaner (409 or Fantastic). 1 for the kitchen, 1 for each bath, 1 for each living area (living room, family room, den, etc.)
  • Ammonia Spray Cleaner (Windex). 1 for the kitchen, 1 for each bath, 1 for each living area.
  • Tile Cleaner that removes soap scum. 1 for each bathroom.
  • A bleaching agent (like Clorox). 1 for each bath.
  • Scouring power (Comet). 1 for each bath.
  • White Vinegar. 1 for each bath.
  • Nylon Scrubber. 1 for the kitchen, 1 for each bath.
  • Paper towels or cleaning cloths (Handi Wipes). 1 for the kitchen, 1 for each bath, 1 for each living area.
  • Sponge. 1 for the kitchen.
  • Furniture spray polish. 1 for each living area.
  • Polishing rag. 1 for each living area.
  • Shaving Cream 1 for each bathroom.
  • Dust cloth (cotton or flannel). 1 for each living area.
  • I don't have room to place my cleaning products and tools in each room, so I have all my tools and my cleaning products in one place in my laundry room. I have only one cleaning product in my plastic handled carrier, plus a roll of paper towels, toothbrush, scrubbers, etc. I can quickly grab my mop, broom, and cleaning carrier to the room that I'm going to clean.
