Here in the United States we don't hear too much about Tuberculosis any more, but Tuberculosis still kills over 1 million people a year. Tuberculosis, or TB, is an infectious disease that is spread from person to person by a person who has the disease when he or she coughs, sneezes, spits, or even shouts. Tuberculosis is often located in the lungs but can spread other parts of the body.

A tuberculosis vaccine has been very effective in protecting children from tuberculosis, but is not recommended for general use in the United States because there is some concern when the vaccine is given to people whose immune system has been compromised or damaged by birth, diseases, certain medications, old age, and stress or other conditions.
