My granny always if you see a penny, pick it up and you'll have good luck all day long. Well, I don't know about the luck, but if you do find a penny in a parking lot or on a sidewalk and you pick it up, you will be one penny richer than you were before. So go ahead and pick those pennies up.

This is just one of the many beliefs, or old superstitions, that has been handed down from our Grandmothers and Grandfathers who got these beliefs from their mothers, dad, and grandparents. At the Old Superstitions site, I found some interesting superstitions that I had never heard before, such as "Cut your hair on Good Friday to prevent headaches in the year", or "A Christmas candle left burning in the window all night guarantees the household's good luck in the coming year. If the candle goes out, it is bad luck".

I wonder what it means if the candle sets the curtains on fire and burns the house down?
Did you know that according to an old wive's tale only the wicked can grow parsley? Yet, "in the 1600's and 1700's in England, children were told that little girls came from the parsley bed".
It makes you wonder where little boys came from, doesn't it?
Just one more old saying and this one totally boggles the mind. "It was once held to be a sure sign that a girl was a virgin if she could walk through a swarm of bees without being stung".
    Ouch!
And with that one yelp of pain I'll ask you to browse to this most interesting site to find a few Old Superstitions that will cause you to wonder what in the world they were thinking!
