Bastille Day Clip ArtBastille Day is July 14th. The Bastille was a medieval prison representing the absolute power of the King of France, Louis XVI. When the Bastille was stormed on July 14 in 1789 it became people's symbol that the power of the king was no longer absolute and was a pivotal event of start of the French Revolution. The first celebration of Bastille Day occurred one year after the storming of The Bastille and in the 1800s the 14th of July was named a national holiday. Bastille Day celebrations start the morning of the 14th with the Bastille Day Military Parade which has been held each year in Paris since 1880. Other Bastille Day activities includes going to the firehouses which are generally opened on July 13th and 14th for live demonstrations and dancing, going to the giant dance part on the Place de la Bastille, feasting, and lots of fireworks.
