First Do No Harm
Actors: Meryl Streep, Fred Ward
Inspired by actual events, a family discovers that their youngest son suffers from epilepsy. Left without hope after their insurance runs out, the mother presses on, studies everything she can find out about the illness, and, against the wishes of her local doctor, takes her son to Baltimore for treatment with the controversial ketogenetic diet.
Something the Lord Made
Actors: Alan Rickman, Mos Def
The emotional true story of two men who defied the rules of their time to launch a medical revolution, set against the backdrop of the Jim Crow south. Working in 1940s Baltimore on an unprecedented technique for performing heart surgery on "blue babies," Dr. Alfred Blalock and lab technician Vivien Thomas form an impressive team. As Blalock and Thomas invent a new field of medicine, saving thousands of lives in the process, social pressures threaten to undermine their collaboration and tear their friendship apart.
Lorenzo's Oil
Actors: Nick Nolte, Susan Sarandon
Based on the real-life case of the Odones family, the story concerns 5-year-old Lorenzo, suffering mightily from an apparently incurable and degenerative brain illness called A.L.D. His parents, an economist and a linguist, refuse to accept the received wisdom that there is no hope, and set about learning biochemistry to pursue a cure on their own.
The Doctor
Actors: William Hurt, Christine Lahti
It's the story of a man who becomes an extraordinary surgeon, as well as an extraordinary person, once he experiences firsthand what it's like being an ordinary patient.
John Q
Actors: Denzel Washington, Robert Duvall
Denzel Washington stars in this powerful drama about a father who takes extreme measures to save his son's life when his insurance company refuses to cover his heart transplant surgery.
The Lost Prince
Actors: Miranda Richardson, Gina Mc Kee

Seen as an embarrassment to the family, he is largely ignored but for his dedicated nurse, who can see the true prince within him. Johnnie, the prince kept hidden away by his parents Queen Mary and George V for fear that his epileptic fits and idiosyncratic ways might draw unwelcome attention, is not presented as a tragic figure.
The Music Never Stopped
Actors: J.K. Simmons, Lou Taylor Pucci

Gifted Hands
Actors: Cuba Gooding Jr., Loren Bassi
true story about a renowned brain surgeon who overcame obstacles to change the course of medicine forever. Young Ben Carson didn't have much of a chance. Growing up in a broken home amongst poverty and prejudice, his grades suffered and his temper flared. And yet, his mother never lost her faith in him. Insisting he follow the opportunities she never had, she helped to grow his imagination, intelligence and, most importantly, his belief in himself. That faith would be his gift - the thing that would drive him to follow his dream of becoming one of the world's leading neurosurgeons.
The Cure
Actors: Joseph Mazzello, Brad Renfro
A truly notable friendship between two 11-year-old boys. Diagnosed with AIDS from a blood transfusion, Dexter has gratefully bypassed most of Kübler-Ross's stages of death. He is, however, an outcast among his peers until Erik comes along and finds him quite normal. Their bond deepens as they look for a cure for the disease using odd forms of scientific theory.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Actors: Jack Nicholson, Louise Fletcher
He fakes insanity and moves in with what he calls the nuts instead of going to jail. Immediately, his contagious sense of disorder runs up against numbing routine. No way should guys pickled on sedatives shuffle around in bathrobes when the World Series is on.
